One of the most intriguing contests in dog photography today is produced by Dog Photography Awards, which runs monthly competitions for professional, amateur, and student photographers worldwide as well as an annual competition. For the 2022 edition, they used the following criteria to determine the winners:
A dog's body language refers to the expression of the dog and its posture. Settings refer to the sharpness of the subject, the overall exposure and the lightning used for studio images.
Composition is about colors, light, layers, story and overall impact of the image. Artistic choices are related to the chosen idea and its execution, its difficulty of realization and its rarity.
Editing refers to the final look of the image and the techniques that seem to be used. We can detect problems in the editing such as masks, color banding, unrealistic flares, overlays, etc.
